In this poignant story by Sandhya and Nasreen, we see a young girl who is faced with the burden of wearing a dupatta at all times. One day, while sweeping the house, she does not wear a dupatta, because of which her father slaps her several times. She is therefore plagued by questions on gender, age and religion. After getting married at age 18, she became a part of Sanatkada’s leadership training programme. But the challenge lies in attending it despite the several obstacles at home.
This story was made as part of a workshop with Sadbhavana Trust, conducted in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh between 2016-2017. The participants involved young women training in leadership and capacity building skills.
Sadbhavana Trust is a Lucknow based feminist non-profit organization working with adolescent girls and young women from marginalized communities in Uttar Pradesh. Sadbhavana Trust aims to support young girls and women with limited access to education and resources with a goal to empower them through capacity building skills and leadership development. In the digital storytelling workshop, participants were equipped with technical skills and conceptual frameworks to create their own stories. They thought about imagery, symbolism, poetry as they worked on what they wanted to say and how they wanted to convey it.
Personal stories of resilience, gender norms, agency, negotiation emerged as some themes, a reflection of their experiences and everyday challenges.
संध्या और नसरीन की इस एहसास से भरी कहानी में हम एक किशोरी को देखते हैं जो हर समय अपने शरीर पर दुपट्टे का भार ढोने पर मजबूर है। एक दिन, घर में झाड़ू लगाते समय वह दुपट्टा नहीं ओढ़ती तो उसके पिता इस बात पर उसे थप्पड़ मारते हैं। इसलिए वह जेण्डर, उम्र और धर्म के सवालों से परेशान है। 18 साल की उम्र में शादी होने के बाद, वह सनतकदा की लीडरशिप ट्र्रेनिंग कार्यक्रम का हिस्सा बनी। लेकिन घर पर मौजूद अनेकों मुश्किलों के बावजूद इसमें हिस्सा लेना एक बहुत बड़ी चुनौती बना।
यह फ़िल्म सदभावना ट्रस्ट के साथ लखनऊ, उत्तर प्रदेश में 2016-2017 के दौरान हुई कार्यशाला में बनाई गई। इसमें शामिल युवा महिलायें लीडरशिप और क्षमता निर्माण कार्यशाला की प्रतिभागी थीं।
सदभावना ट्रस्ट, लखनऊ स्थित एक नारीवादी ग़ैर-लाभकारी संस्था है जो उत्तर प्रदेश की हाशियाग्रस्त समुदायों की किशोरियों और युवा महिलाओं के साथ काम कर रही है। सदभावना ट्रस्ट, इन किशोरियों और युवा महिलाओं, जिनकी शिक्षा और संसाधनों तक सीमित पहुँच है, को सहयोग देकर क्षमता निर्माण और लीडरशिप विकास के ज़रिए उनका सशक्तिकरण करना चाहती है। डिजीटल कहानीकार कार्यशाला में, प्रतिभागियों को अपनी कहानियाँ बनाने के लिए तकनीकी क्षमता और उससे जुड़ी तथ्यात्मक जानकारी दी गई। कहानियाँ बनाते हुए उन्होंने अपनी बात को कहने के लिए कल्पना, प्रतीकों, कविता के बारे में सोचा और यह भी कि कैसे वह अपनी बात को सब के सामने लाएगीं।
जेण्डर क़ायदे, अपना अस्तित्व, लचीलेपन, अपनी बात मनवाने की व्यक्तिगत कहानियाँ, जो उनके दैनिक जीवन के अनुभवों और चुनौतियों को बता रहे थे, इन फ़िल्मों के लिए विषय बन कर सामने आईं।
